Daily Painting Sept 2017 :: No. 16 of 30

Nocturnes make their way into my work every so often. In past #30in30 challenges, I see the nocturnes pop up. They are favorites of my patrons and I should do more. It's a difficult thing for me to paint because night isn't about color so much and you have to work from life and from memory. This can be done, but it takes more effort.

And so here is a marsh I love and have visited and painted often. For today's painting I looked at paintings from the day and made the scene into night. Ha! What exhausting fun that was!!

It was a stellar day, after a fantastic Friday night, making my two-day open studio event a humbling success. To have people who have followed my #30in30 progress from September come to my studio to see the paintings in person and offer their support and encouragement was beyond affirming.

To say the least, I'm pooped! My studio is in perfect order now, so it's time to get it messy again. I'll admit that this painting, Reflections, was one that I had completed for a day in the future, when I'd be too spent to paint. Today is that day! Tomorrow I look forward to painting something about the fall landscape. Tonight, I'm off to bed after a lovely evening with my family. Tim and I just watched an hour of mindless television, and I feel ready to conquer a new painting...tomorrow!

Embrace autumn?

Much of my posting extols the glory of summer. My goodness I'm such a summer girl!

Fall is pretty - of course it is - with its perfect weather, cool nights for easy sleeping, gorgeous pink light and beautiful clouds and colors. Wow. It's the oncoming decline in temperatures and the diminishing light which make me glum.

And then there's the season next on the horizon, but let's keep that in the ether for now. We can call that time of cold and snow 'the-season-that-shall-not-be-named.'

As a painter I cannot help but be inspired by this weather and color and change in the light. Last week I finished this piece.

While I worked on it while the girls were in school (a MAJOR change in my life's schedule) I thought about my autumn angst and some of it abated but only for a fleeting moment.
